GAPS Africa 2023 will this year be happening in Stellenbosch, South Africa according to the Commonwealth Games Federation.
Participants in GAPS Africa 2023 will attend a training camp in Stellenbosch, South Africa. However, their official inclusion in the program depends on both the athlete and the coach agreeing to participate and signing the Participant Agreement & Code of Conduct.
In the selection process, the Commonwealth Games Federation applied the following principles: ensuring gender balance with a ratio of 60% male and 40% female for coach selection, and a 50:50 ratio for athletes in 2023. There was also consideration given to the distribution between the three sports: Para-athletics (50%), Powerlifting (28%), and Para Table Tennis (22%). Additionally, no athletes under the age of 18 were selected in this round.
To coincide with the 2023 African Paralympic Games in Ghana, the Commonwealth has scheduled the training camps in Stellenbosch, South Africa, with each sport having a 10-day camp. The training and camp will takeplace from August 23, 2023 to September 10, 2023.
Each sport has one coach and one athlete selected for the GAPS Africa 2023 program and their participation in the training camp in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
From Uganda, Dennis Mbaziira and Evelyn Nabirye will represent in the Para Powerlifting, both will be escorted by their coach Emmanuel Musoke from TNC Wellness Center.
